Teacher Training
Sabrina Vaz founded Traditional Authentic Pilates (TAP) to offer teacher training and continuing education workshops with respect to the teaching of Joseph H. Pilates and his New York Studio.
TAP is a program that focuses on developing the ability to teach the individual as well as the group. The training participant will receive vital information and exposure to skills that will be critical in teaching a wide variety of clientele. We will offer small class size, lots of individual attention, mentorship and apprenticeship.
You will learn:
- The principals that Joe Pilates taught.
- The archival exercises taught by Mr. Pilates
- The primary goals of each exercise
- How to work with dancers & athletes
- How to work with injury
- How to work with pregnant clients
- Why Mr. Pilates had a specific order to the exercises
- How to find limitations in movement
- How to find and correct posture & alignment faults
- How to adapt exercises to clients with injury
- How to structure a one hour private session
- How to communicate with affective cues
- Hands On for clients
- Proper Pilates form
The TAP teacher training program consists of a two week course that focuses on the entire series of exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates as well as, the equipment he designed. Once the course is completed there will be a period of apprenticship of 100 hours. The apprenticship will be self study or under supervision. This will be determined after the completion of the two week course. A two day practical & written exam will complete the program.
Pre-Requisites:
- A minimum of 10 prior pilates sessions with a TAP Instructor
- A completed questionnaire
- Read Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-German
- Suggested Reading: Muscles: Testing & Function by Kendall
The course fee will include a manual which will make clear what exercises are appropriate for each level, repetitions, goals, and who should not do a particular exercise. You will also view footage of Joe Pilates teaching class.
Student Teaching:
You will be eligible to teach in a studio once it is determined you are ready. You will be paid $15.00 per client. The clients you teach will be interested in working with an apprentice and will pay the studio $35.00, no exceptions. This will prepare you for your final exam.
Final Exam will consist of written Test, practicale test in 2 parts : Performance of exercises and teaching clients
Certification Course Fee:
Comprehensive Certification is $1,950.00 with a $250. 00 studio fee. The fee must be paid in full prior to the first day of the course. The course will be held in 2 five day workshops. No additional testing fee is required.
TAP PILATES will customize a certification workshop for studios, spas, gyms and businesses wanting to have six or more clients go through the certification processs.
We will also customize a Mat Certification Course for Gyms.
